STUDY: Pediatric Practice
The Client:
Since
their inception more than thirty years ago, this pediatric practice has been
committed to providing the finest in pediatric health care. Now in their
fourth decade of practice, they have the pleasure of watching former
pediatric patients, now parents themselves, bring their children to them.
Their 23
pediatricians are all board-certified and received their education and
training from some of the country's most renowned medical schools and
pediatric residency programs. Committed to making each visit as pleasant as
possible for you and your family, their nurses and receptionists share a
passion for caring for children. The facilities are
child-friendly and comfortable, and offices are established in six
convenient locations throughout their region.
The
Challenge:
Prior to joining the ICS family, this practice used a managed services IT group that didn’t provide
the attention to details required by this growing pediatric practice.
Historically, their IT operations were prone to outages and disruptions that
were proving to be detrimental to the practice’s revenue. They once had a vision for their IT systems to be resilient,
scalable and managed on a full time basis with little tolerance for
downtime. They knew the anticipated move to Electronic Health Records (EHR)
within their practice would require a new infrastructure to support their
current operations efficiently and have the capacity to scale to meet the
anticipated increase in the size and volume of reporting requirements over
the coming 6-12 month period. They needed to work with a firm that could
design, implement and provide timely ongoing support for their IT
environment.
Innovative
Computer Systems’ Solution
When they made the move to their new EHR system, they chose to

upgrade their existing WAN infrastructure from a slower fractional T1 line
configuration to a robust broadband solution that provides bandwidth from 8
to 20 times faster speeds at a fraction of the recurring cost of the old
bottlenecking bandwidth. Next, a state of the art server environment was put in place at their
main location with 6 remote offices connecting over a HIPAA compliant secure VPN. Enterprise
class firewalls, web and email filters were also implemented to protect
their fragile IT environment from outside intrusion, and email and internet
borne virus and spyware threats.
They
now have a cutting edge and self sustaining IT infrastructure leveraging
ICS’ outsourced IT support. They are remotely monitored and managed on a 24x7
basis. With proactive maintenance and constant monitoring of their systems, ICS’ engineers are able to respond to issues
immediately and often times prevent disruption to their users before they
occur. They now enjoy a fully managed state of the art IT
environment which is maintained for a very reasonable cost. By all accounts
the computer systems are stable and the end users are extremely happy. With
this new technology foundation they can confidentially continue their
expansion with their IT systems serving the practice instead of disrupting
it.
